First Things December 2012

December 18, 2012

There is a lot going on at the church.  Here’s a sample:

Solar Panels.  Benchmark Solar has installed our solar panels on the roof of Fritchman Auditorium and is upgrading our electrical connections  The work should be finished by the end of this month. We will have about four times as much power available as before, at about 70% of the price, and no cost to the environment.

Website.  In June the congregation approved hiring a contractor to finish our church website re-design.  The new website will be up by the end of the month.

Urban Ministry.  We are considering a new name and the new Bylaws are nearly finished.  Now we are recruiting new Board members.  A volunteer fundraising consultant is helping us put together a fundraising plan.  This new group will oversee all of First Church’s Neighborhood programs.

Building and Grounds.  Projects for the rest of this year include major upgrades to the interior of Fritchman Auditorium and the Choir Room and concrete repair on the outer walls of the church.  A group is forming to redesign our courtyard space into an attractive and welcoming meditation garden.

Money.  With the sale of property to Mercy Housing the church is in good shape financially.  The Finance Committee is reviewing our long range plans and will soon make a recommendation to the Board about what we can do now to insure our continued financial stability in the future.

Installation Service.  The Ministerial Relations Committee has started creating a worship service to officially install me as your settled minister.  The ceremony will be Sunday, March 24 in the afternoon.
